DESCRIPTION

The COFF’s Orchestra Festival is a competitive event and open for all Marching Band and Ensemble/Orchestra groups, where they should perform on the stage.

It consists of instrumentalists demonstrating their best performing abilities on wind band or any marching band instruments in groups with at least 12 but not to exceed 50 student participants registered for. *

INSTRUMENTATION

All musical instruments which are family of windband orchestra are allowed to be used ;

Brass ; Trumpet/Flugel, Mellophone, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone/Euphonium, Tuba

Woodwind ; Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Bassoon

Percussion/Combo ; Piano/Keyboard, Keyboard Percussions, Drumset, Timpani, and other.

Others ; Melodion (Pianika), Recorder, etc.

PERFORMANCE TIME

The total performance time limit is 20 minutes (stay on the stage), which includes a maximum 1-minute-long rehearsal on the stage in the competition hall without the jury presence and a maximum 14-minute-long competition performance, In the total time limit the entering and leaving of the orchestra is included.

PERFORMANCE DIVISIONS

  1. On the registration form, Directors will select the appropriate division for their group based on developmental levels and repertoire grade level.
  2. This festival is intended for all levels of performance groups

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

  1. This competition is open to all level of marching band and independent groups.
  2. Every participants is allowed to choose more than 1 category but should be in different style.

HOW TO JUDGE

  1. The judge will only assess the use of the instrument being played. There is no requirement for certain instruments to be played
  2. The number of types of equipment does not absolutely affect the assessment. Each group will only be judged based on the instrument being played.

ASSESSMENT & ADJUDICATION

  1. Decisions of the jury are final and cannot be contested.
  2. If there are fewer than 2 orchestras applied in a category, the title “Winner of the Category” cannot be awarded.
  3. The evaluation points of the jury :
    1. Harmonizing, tone and sound quality
    2. Phrasing, articulation, rhythmical performance/coordination
    3. Dynamics and sound balance
    4. Feeling through the style/interpretation
    5. Choice of the repertoire with regards to the orchestras level and classification
    6. Overall artistic impression (teamwork, keeping the time limit, entering and leaving the stage).
  4. On the basis of achieved points the orchestras will be assigned according to the international rules:

— 90,01 – 100 points  excellent  GOLD with honours

— 75,01 – 90 points  very good  GOLD

— 55,01 – 75 points  satisfactory  SILVER

— 00,00 – 55 points participant  BRONZE

SELECTION of MUSIC

  1. Repertoire performed at the festival, and selected by the instructor, should be appropriate for the full ensemble’s stage of development and reflect superior judgment in selection of standard festival material.
  2. Literature in public domain is allowed.
  3. All genres of music are allowed in this festival.
  4. Each band should perform minimum of two songs.
  5. Music that features (or is specifically written as) a solo, duet, trio, quartet or small ensemble with band/orchestral accompaniment is limited to a maximum of 2 minutes of those parts.

MUSIC SHEET

  1. Band must send the 1 digital copies (per song) of scores in PDF format via Email, until June 30, 2019.
  2. Submitted original copies of scores will be used only for judging and NOT BE GIVEN BACK.
  3. All participating choirs are individually responsible for honoring copyright and performance rights of the songs during the competition. The use of unauthorized/reproduced copies is strictly prohibited.

STAGE & REHEARSAL

  1. Each participant could get time slot for stage rehearsal to check the sound artistic and stage blocking to find the best position for sound quality and visualization on performance.
  2. Seats, note stands and a conductor´s stand will be provided by the organiser. Some instruments will also be available to be used by participating orchestras (e.g. digital piano and the drum set).

GUIDELINES & LIMITATIONS

  1. Band should not warm-up on stage prior to performance.
  2. Electronic and/or keyboard instruments (acoustic or electric) may be used if called for in score. But they may NOT be used as a substitute for another instrument.
  3. Band can use any type of percussion equipment (not only limited to battery percussion

MEET THE JURIES

Every participants can send maximum 3 persons as representative to consult and receive advices directly from the experts as an evaluation to improve future performances. This session allows the Jury to provide valuable feedback, advice and tips for the conductors post-competition.

AWARDING AND CEREMONY

Each Participant in the competition will receive a Certificate, Medal, and Trophy according to the final score. Only the participant who achieve a Gold Medal and highest score in each category will get the Category Winner Trophy.

All participants must attend the Closing Ceremony to hear the announcement of the results from all BCOFF2-2019 Activities. Certificate, Medal and Trophy will only be awarded at this time. There will be no re-awarding on the stage for any participant who is accidentally late or couldn’t attend the Award Ceremony.

REGISTRATION STEP BY STEP

STEP -1

The following documents must be sent via email to ORCHESTRA@festive.id BEFORE the closing of the registration (email subject ; BCOFF2-Your Group Name) :

  1. Registration form that has been filled in completely and correctly
  2. Payment receipt for GROUP registration fee, write the notes with “BCOFF2-(Your Group Name)-GROUP”. (for example à BCOFF2-XYZ-GROUP)

STEP -2

Committee will send you an email confirmation (email subject ; Registration Number-Group Name), and you must REPLY it to us with attaching these following documents : 

  1. The most current picture of your group with good quality to be printed in the program book and to be published in the website (Min. 2Mb/min. res 300 dpi)
  2. Your group’s profile (maximum in 200 words).
  3. Payment receipt for MEMBER registration fee, write the notes with BCOFF2-Your Group Name-MEMBER”. (for example à BCOFF2-XYZ-MEMBER)

STEP -3

The following documents must be sent AFTER getting the committee’s approval :

1 set of the DIGITAL copies (in PDF format), send to BCOFF office address -à by email.

REGISTRATION FEE

All participants taking part in #BCOFF2019 are to settle the GROUP FEE (USD 80/IDR 1,000,000/category) and MEMBER FEE (IDR 100,000/person –local group, USD 18/person –foreign group). This cost will be include ;

  1. Certificate of Participation (1 per member)
  2. Award and Closing Ceremony Ticket (1 per member)
  3. Festival Gifts ; Program Book and Goodie Bag (1 per member)
  4. Diploma of Achievement (1 per group)
  5. Scoring Sheet and Jury’s Comments via Email (1 per group)

EARLY BIRD -1 (EB-1)

Participant who register and must fill the application form and submit group photo latest on FEBRUARY 28, 2019

  2. Full payment the Member Fee (per person) latest on MARCH 31, 2019

CASH BACK 50% OF GROUP FEE

For Participant who register and send the transfer receipts, application form, and choir photo by MARCH 31, 2019.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. Valid only for 10 groups
  2. Full payment the Member Fee (per person) latest on APRIL 30, 2019

NORMAL REGISTRATION (REG)

For participant who register by MAY 20, 2019, the Group Fee is

USD 80 (IDR 1,000,000) per category.

  2. Full payment the Member Fee (per person) latest on JUNE 15, 2019
